It was a great and very successful exhibition. Despite heavy transportation strikes in Paris, we still had a great turn out for Felures et Lumiere. The set up was a community effort with many of the artists present.f the artists present.

Born and raised in Japan, Setsuko Aihara taught Japanese language and culture at American universities from Hawaii to Harvard. In her thirties she began a parallel career exploring intercultural and depth-psychological themes in oil paintings using the Venetian method. This show contains narrative paintings and portraits that explore the mental dramas enacted by the figures and who is there behind the faces.

Setsuko Aihara, geboren und aufgewachsen in Japan, unterrichtete Japanische Sprache und Kultur an amerikanischen Universitäten; unter anderem an der University of Hawaii und an der Harvard University. Mitte dreissig begann sie eine zweite, zusätzliche Karriere als Künstlerin.
In ihren Arbeiten setzt sich Setsuko Aihara mit interkulturellen und tiefenpsychologischen Themen auseinander, die in narrativen Gemälden und Porträts Ausdruck finden. Besonders bemerkenswert dabei, ihre Ölgemälde entstehen in traditioneller venezianischer Maltechnik. Die Ausstellung zeigt Themen aus dem Japanischen Theater, sowie Gesichter und Gestalten, die sich mit dem befassen, was in ihrem Inneren vorgeht und wer hinter den Gesichtern verborgen ist.
