2014 Misch-technique Painting Retreat in Bali
with Prof Phil, Mantra and Wolfgang Widmoser
There is a reason that former students of the Old Masters-New Visions (OMNV) painting seminars have been unusually successful in both their work and life, and that is that Prof Phil and Mantra's approach to teaching and that of his guest teachers, such as Wolfgang Widmoser, De Es and others - ensure that students never end up painting even remotely similar to them, or to one another. The versatility in the students' work are a reflection of the teachers' indefatigable support, respect and encouragement for each student's unique visual language and artistic expression.
As it was in the Renaissance, the Master-Student relationship here is very strong, but without impinging on the students' individuality, the teachers impart a knowledge of painting techniques to unleash new visions. The importance of a profound knowledge of painting technique is greatly emphasized in the studio, but not less than the role of the artist's psyche, spiritual imagination and process of invention. 'Psyche' and it's handmaiden, 'Techne', working in harmony. The artists have the opportunity to learn not only XV to XVII century techniques but apply them in a contemporary expression from the fantastic to the abstract and beyond. They learn all aspects of their craft, from the maintenance of their equipment, to the different paints, mediums and tools, to a high awareness of color, light, perspective and depth, atmosphere and the relationship between all of these elements without abandoning the quality of 'human feeling' that has become elusive in the hands of many painters today.
Since 1997, students from all over Europe, the USA, Australia and the rest of the globe have attended the OMNV Painting seminars. The spectrum of teaching is excellent for beginning students to highly accomplished artists. There is an atmosphere generated for "serious - play". The only prerequisite is a serious attitude toward the art of painting, respect and support of one another and the ability to 'play'. The courses are taught in English. Class size is kept to a minimum in order to facilitate one-to-one contact as often as possible; never more than fifteen and very often under twelve.

PLEASE NOTE:
We are currently rebuilding our website with a new theme - so temporarily this site is functional, but a construction zone.
Headers, background and certain special new functions will be built in, respectively changed. Additionally, most Slide Shows used to be embedded from our Private Social Network on Ning. Since Ning discontinued Flash some time ago, the space where the embedded slide shows supposed to be is blank!
We are working to fix this as well, but with over 500 pages for artists alone, this will take time.
